The Brown Girls Wear White Coats Program is an immersive STEAM and medical career exploration series designed to inspire, empower, and affirm young girls of color by exposing them to diverse pathways in science, technology, engineering, medicine, and health-related fields.
This series is comprised of labs that provides students with hands-on learning experiences, interactive STEM stations, and opportunities to engage with professionals and mentors who reflect their identities and lived experiences. Through exposure, representation, and real-world application, participants gain a deeper understanding of STEAM careers while building confidence in their own potential.
Our Brown Girls Wear White Coats Expo brings multiple disciplines together and encourages families to actively participate alongside students, strengthening support systems and fostering meaningful conversations about education, career goals, and academic preparation. Brown Girls Wear White Coats is more than labs and events, it is a space where curiosity is celebrated, aspirations are nurtured, and future leaders begin to see themselves in roles they may not have previously imagined.

Cosmetic Chemistry Lab
The Cosmetic Chemistry Lab introduces students to the fascinating science behind everyday beauty and personal car products. Our student partipants become cosmetic chemists as they investigate ingredients, design formulas, test product properties, and create their own personalized skincare products. While mixing, measuring, and experiementing, participants explore chemistry, biology, mathematics, and engineering concepts through real-world applications.
Through engaging, hands-on investigations, students develop critical thinking and scientific inquiry skills while creating their own custom products to take home. Along the way, they gain exposure to careers in cosmetic chemistry , product development, dermatology, pharmacy, and related STEM careers while encouraging creativity, curiosity, and confidence in the laboratory.

*Students learned about the STEM careers behind beauty and personal care products. Afterwards, they participated in a virtual lab, where they created their own sugar scrub. They were then able to apply what they learned from the virtual lab in a hands-on experiement and created their own body scrub.
