Full STEAM Ahead was created from a simple but deeply held belief that learning should be engaging, hand-on, and meaningful for every child regardless of where they live, how much their family earns, or what resources are available to them. Education should be an experience, not a privilege.

Founder and educator, Joi'a Austin, began Full STEAM Ahead after witnessing firsthand how educational experiences often differ on socioeconomic status, access, and opportunity. While some children benefit from immersive, hands-on learning environments, others are limited to instruction with little to no exposure to enrichment. That gap was disheartening and it sparked action.

What began as a program delivering STEM instruction at various centers evolved into something more intentional. Joi'a wanted to serve children who would benefit most from high-quality enrichment but often had the least access to it. She began offering free Literacy & STEM classes at her local library, opening the doors to families regardless of their income. As participation grew and demand increased, Full STEAM Ahead transitioned into a nonprofit organization to ensure sustainability, equity, and long-term impact. 

We envision a future where all students have equitable access to enriching educational experiences that support the whole child. Full STEAM Ahead works toward a world where students are confident learners, critical thinkers, and future leaders who see limitless possibilities for themselves. Therefore, we exist to close educational gaps by providing hands-on Literacy and STEAM enrichment for children and youth through our many programs. We provide culturally responsive learning experiences and mentorship all while supporting the academic growth of the students we serve by nurturing their curiosity, confidence, and a love for learning.
